I have Ubuntu 7.10(version of linux) installed in my system,I have oracle 9i installed as well,But i am unable to figure out how to connect to it through ubuntu.
Please let me know

Start sqlplus and supply a userid and password. For example, try:
$ sqlplus / as sysdba

Whether that will automatically connect?
no need to set any environmental variables and path settings?

It should. Test it and let us know.

PS: You may need to set environment variables like ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID. Also see oraenv.

I am new to the field of Linux so don't know how to set the paths and variables,is there any installation guide?
