Today I noticed that using Quick Reply subscribed me to the topic I replied to.
I must say that I never used QR before, so I don't know if this is existing or intended behaviour.

Not only the quick reply ,a basic general existing reply
feature also will get you subscribed to the topic if you replied any.

No, using the normal reply functionality does not subscribe you.

I pushed the "Reply" button and wrote this message. Now I'll check my control panel and check whether the "old" reply subscribes me or not.

This is my Subscription panel:

/forum/fa/8036/0/

It seems that I'm now subscribed to the topic.

Under control panel -> account settings -> preferences, there is an option like this:

Select Notification by Default:
If notification is enabled by default, it can be disabled when posting. Yes No

So, if it is set to yes, then you are subscribed to the topic and notified of any responses to anything that you have posted, whether you started the thread or posted a reply on someone else's thread. If it is set to no, then you are not subscribed and not notified. This is the behavior with regular replies and it should be the same with quick replies.

Re writing the same answer with a different style is not fair.

For ages, it is Yes for me. I never faced any issue.
The only issue I faced is when splitting the topic. We need to split the topic first and then reply.
If you reply and split, it won't get subscribed.

Same With me

I got used to you confirming every other post, but this simply does not make sense.
You are not even able to split topics.

So does anyone actually know how to turn off auto-subscribe, because Barbara's suggestion doesn't work and it's filling up my inbox.
