Hi all,

I just wanted to draw to your attention all the garbage we're seeing in the filesystems on a Linux machine running under Hyper-V.
On almost all Linux VMs running in Hyper-V we have similar garbage in different directories as:

-rw------ 1 oracle oinstall 0 Aug 5 04:09 1F14P13nax
-rw ----- 1 oracle oinstall 0 Aug 3 03:57 3HIONRUrgD
-rw------ 1 oracle oinstall 0 Sep 15 13:05 4xoxMHsqOG

We're not seeing the same on Xen virtualized VMs.

The files do not take up much space but I would be interested to know where this comes from.

Kind regards,

Johans

One interesting bit of information would be in which directory those files appear.

Hi,

I have found them for example in:

1. /tmp ... holding small files telling me "Response From Agent: running"

2. /appldata/oracle/product/agent11g .... these contain info related to Oracle as for example:

[root@tmp]# cat Xc3SfVWlNS

We don't find such files in RH Linux on Xen; only on Hyper-V

Shocked

That seems to be log files of the Oracle Grid Agent. Are the machines where the files appear by any chance in a grid and the machines where they don't appear are single machine instances?

That difference can't be the reason, though. The reason must be in a somewhat different Oracle install.
