Hi,
We had seen the pre-installation guide for installing Oracle 8.1.6 on Linux 7.3. But, while running the command "./runInstaller", we are prompted with the words
"Initializing Java Virtual Machine from ../stage/Components/Oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8/1/Datafiles/Expanded/linux/bin/jre. Please wait..."

But after this there is NO RESPONSE from the HDD.
How to proceed? Pl. guide us in this regard.

hi, just saw your query, i had the same problem, just need to install the compat-libs, compat-libstdc++, and compat-egcs pacakges from redhat. then do
export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5
and run the script in /usr/i386-glibc21-linux/bin/i386-glibc21-linux-env.sh

now launch the installer from the same shell.
