I want to do automatic archiving and would like to do it to GDGs. I plan on using Recovery Manager.

Can the Log_Archive_Format be set to use GDGs?
Does someone have a sample of params for INITORA?

Is the use of RMAN the "best" way to get backups (cold and otherwise)?
Are there any white papers or RedBooks that I could reference?

Thank you,
Fred

: Please refer to Oracle8 & Oracle8i Backup/Recovery by Peter Wong in
: Oracle MVS Sig presentation 2000. In Oracle7, we've been using GDG
: for archiving the redo logs. In Oracle8i, it may be possible, but
: we're not sure. We'll plan to migrate to Oracle8i (MPM) early in
: this year. It looks like RMAN prefers the archive log format as
: documented in the manual.
