We are looking to upgrade from 8.1.7.3.50 to 9i and wondering if anyone has successfully done this? Is there any gotcha's? Reommended release to go to (not bleeding edge)?

Thanks

Hi:

I have been trying in my spare time to upgrade my 8.1.7.4.50 OSDI database to 9.2.0.21 in a test environment for the last few months. I've had two problems with the upgrade procedure so far. One is a documented ORA-600 problem (its a small note in the "known problems" section of the release notes and is described in note 163279.1) during the upgrade. One essentially has to use a special EVENT database init parm to avoid the upgrade job abending! After that problem, I couldn't get CATPROC to run without hanging during the latter part of the upgrade. Oracle Corp has today provided a patch for that problem. I'm hoping to successfully upgrade my test environment next week.
