Hi,

I'm installing Oracle 10g on CentOS (a REHL clone), but from all the requirements of the OS, two of them fail:

"Checking kernel parameters
(...)
Checking for semopm=100; found semopm=32. Failed <<<<
Checking for shmmax=2147483648; found shmmax=33554432. Failed <<<<

Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<

Problem: The parameters in the kernel do not meet the minimum
requirements (see above).
Recommendation: Perform operating system specific instructions to
update the kernel parameters, namely BIT_SIZE and noexec_user_stack."

Er... what is this ?
Two missing modules ?
Or two existing modules needing parameters ?

I don't know exactly what Oracle means by this error.

Any ideas ?
Anyone that have already instaled Oracle and knows how to overcome this issue ?

Any help would be apreciated.

Warm Regards.

Yeah that really helps. So I go to the installation manual and search for
BIT_SIZE and nada. Not even Bit Size - nothing. There is a discussion
on how to determine the value but nothing about setting it in the
env.mk files for the make/relink.

rtfm isn't necessarily helpful.

Marc,

The message that you are getting is telling you that the value for the semopm parameter is 32 and you need to change it to 100 and the value for the shmmax parameter is 33554432 and you need to change it to 2147483648. If you click on the link that Frank provided, you will find that it is a link to a specific section of the installation manual for your Oracle version and operating system, regarding configuring kernel parameters and shell limits, that provides specific instructions as to what these values should be, the commands to use to display what the values are, and the commands to use to change those values in the /etc/sysctl.conf file and how to ensure that those changes have taken effect.

Yes but I'm installing on AIX getting the same error. Don't believe AIX
has semaphore parameters (as I recall it's automatic in the kernel).

Any other ideas?
