hi there,

i have installed oracle10g R2 with the following kernel parameter:

semmsl = 250
semms = 32000
semopm = 100
semmni 128
shmall = 2097152
shmmax = 536870912
shmmni = 4096
file-max = 65536
ip_local_port_range = 1024 65000

then i want to install Metadata Repository Creation Assistant, when i run OUI, i have got this message:

Checking security kernel parameter
msgmnb=65536; found msgmnb=16384. Failed
msgmni=2878; found msgmni=16. Failed
shmmax=4294967295; found shmmax=536870912. Failed
file-max=206173; found file-max=65536. Failed
semmsl=256; found semmsl=250. Failed
semmni=142; found semmni=128. Failed

the questions are
1. should i change the values of kernel paramaeters for Metadata Repository Creation Assistant installation?
2. is there any consecuences to the existing database with the values changes.

thanks in advance.

As you probably already know, it's failing because the values you have set are below the suggested minimum values. Do you have a particular reason for not setting the values to ATLEAST the minimum ?

If Oracle can not allocate the memory it requires, then you could have problems even starting Oracle.

1) you have to i guess or you cant proceed with the installation. i wouldn't be comfortable even though the installation could be completed by ignoring those warnings/errors.

2) not sure. if you have the luxury to test, it's good to do that. backup the current kernel setting, make the changes so that mrca could be installed. once done, fire up the db (and mrca) and see if the new kernel setting would affect your db negatively.

alternatively, get another machine for the mrca. leave the db alone.
