Hi!

Im slowly learning and Im about to install Oracles database 10g on SuSe 10.1 (using VWware).

I will use this thread to get trough the installation, with your help Cool

I have used this guide --> http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15660.pdf
(the official guide for installing 10g on a x86 machine)

So, my first issue! Embarassed

Im trying to check the Configuring Name Resolution on page 35.
When using the hostname command as a root user I dont get any answer, according to the installation manual I should se something like this:

myhost.mycomputer.com

I only get a blank row.

So my first question (more will surely follow):

1. How do I set the host name?

Well, I have follwed the installation guide, but when I try to run the runInstaller I get an error.

It says that the OS is not one of the supported ones, in this case Suse 9 or above. (its 10.1). The installation process stops.

Anyone have any ideas of how to proceed from here?

did you check weather both oracle and OS are certified for each other??

Are you trying to install correct version of oracle on your oS??

Yes, its one of the supported ones. I have actually solved the problem, had to edit a parameterfile.
